Michigan City, IN : Woman dies after motorcycle crash in LaPorte County on Saturday afternoon, May 7, 2016

A woman died after a motorcycle crash in rural LaPorte County on Saturday afternoon.

The crash took place near the intersection of State Road 2 and County Road North 600 East at about 1:45 p.m. Saturday, LaPorte County sheriff's police Capt. Mike Kellems said.

A group of bikers were traveling in a pack when one motorcycle rear-ended another, according to Kellems.

The female passenger on the vehicle that was rear-ended was taken by Medivac helicopter to a South Bend trauma center, where she was later pronounced dead, police said. The driver was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non-life-threatening injuries.

No one else was hurt in the collision, including the driver of the other vehicle.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a contributing factor in the fatal crash. No one had been arrested or ticketed as of Saturday evening.
