NEWTON COUNTY, IN : An Elkhart woman died in a crash on I-65 on Monday, 19th March 2018

An Elkhart woman died in a crash on I-65 at 11:25 a.m. Monday.

According to Indiana Sate Police Lowell District, the crash occurred in the northbound lanes of I-65 at the 232 mile marker, which is two miles north of the Demotte exit.

Killed in the crash was Anastasia J. Chapman, 23, Elkhart. Chapman was driving a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan north and for an undetermined reason failed to see that traffic ahead of her had slowed down, police said.

The van struck the back of a 1986 Peterbilt semi-tractor pulling an empty trailer, police said. The Peterbilt was driven by Derek G. Juhl, 29, Brook, Indiana. Police reported that at the time of the crash, traffic was backed up due to pothole repair taking place about one mile north of the crash.
