Jacksonville,FL : Boy, 13, faces multiple charges after crashing truck on December, Monday 18th 2017

A 13-year-old Jacksonville boy faces a host of charges after he crashed a reportedly stolen truck in northwest Marion County and allegedly brandished a gun taken from a nearby car as he fled on foot before being caught by a K-9 unit, according to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The youth, who is not being named by the Star Banner because of his age, faces charges from both agencies.

According to an FHP report, the boy was driving a stolen 2003 Chevrolet S-10 southbound on U.S. Highway 441 around 9:37 a.m. Monday when he attempted to make a right turn onto Northwest 77th Street. He collided with a 2015 GMC Terrain, driven by Meghan Burke, 26, of Jacksonville, which was headed eastbound on Northwest 77th St. and stopped at the red light.

The youth received minor injuries in the crash, the report states.


The FHP report indicates the boy will be charged with grand theft, no driver’s license, resisting arrest without violence, leaving the scene of a crash and reckless driving.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Lauren Lettelier said he that agency will bring charges of burglary of a conveyance, armed burglary, theft of a firearm, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, illegal unlicensed carrying of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Lettelier said that following the crash, the youth ran from the scene and allegedly burglarized several cars in the Irish Acres neighborhood. When two citizens approached him, he reportedly threatened them with the gun, leading to the two aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges, she said.

A MCSO K-9 unit apprehended the youth without incident and he is being held in Juvenile Detention, Lettelier said
