Two people were sent to the hospital following a one-car accident Saturday, according to Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 9:30 a.m., Joseph Dreyer, 60, of Clinton, was operating a 2008 Honda heading east on Route 5 when he swerved to miss a deer in the road, deputies said.
Dreyer was unable to correct the vehicle, causing it to travel off the northern shoulder and striking two trees before coming to rest, officials said.
The Town of Vernon Fire Department had to extricate both Dreyer and his passenger Maria Dreyer, 74, also of Clinton, deputies said.
They both were taken by Vineall Ambulance to the St. Elizabeth Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System for evaluation.
