A Wabash Valley man died Friday night following a crash in western Vigo County.

Kevin Sollars, 40, of West Terre Haute, died after his 1994 Dodge pickup truck struck a tree, the Vigo County Sheriff Dept. said Saturday.

At 9:35 p.m. Vigo County Sheriff's deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash on Gannon Road in northwest of West Terre Haute. Deputies said Sollars' truck had been travelling southeast on Gannon Road when it left the roadway for unknown reasons.

Police say it appeared Sollars then over-corrected, causing his vehicle to cross the northwest driving lane where it left the roadway once more before striking a tree.

Sollars was then extracted from the vehicle and taken to Union Hospital in Terre Haute, where he was pronounced dead.

Chief Deputy John Moats said it did not appear Sollars was wearing his seat belt, and toxicology results are pending.
