Three people were injured in a crash in Matthews Monday morning.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. on Idlewild Road between Plentywood Drive and Kale Lane, near Mint Hill Middle School.

Mint Hill police say a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta and a 2014 Ford 150 collided head-on.

Medic took the driver of the Volkswagen to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. The passenger in the Volkswagen and the driver of the Ford both went to CMC in stable condition.

Investigators are working to determine if speed or alcohol contributed to the crash.
