Oregon City, OR : 2 students, both drivers injured when school bus, car collide in Oregon City on Friday morning, February 6, 2015
A sedan crashed into a school bus Friday morning, injuring both drivers and some students, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said.
The bus was completing a left-hand turn onto South Maplelane Road from South Country Village Drive when it was hit. Deputies say the driver of the car was going well below the posted 45 mph speed limit but still couldn’t avoid the collision.
None of the students was seriously injured in the crash, with a few suffering only bumps and bruises. The driver of the car, however, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Oregon City School District officials told KATU News.
There were 33 kids on board at the time of the crash.
Officials said a sedan crashed into the rear driver's side of the bus near at around 7:30 a.m. Friday.
The school district said the bus (driving on Route 209) was carrying students to Redland Elementary School, which is located a couple miles east of the crash. Parents met their students at the crash scene and at the school, the district said.
The district said two students with minor injuries were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, but only because their parents were not at the scene to pick them up.
KATU asked the school district for the name of the bus driver and about their record as an employee. The district would not release that information, saying only that the bus driver was hurt, though not as seriously as the driver of the car.
Deputies say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
