Rio Arriba County, NM : Canjilon man killed in one-vehicle crash on Sunday, 23rd September 2018

A Canjilon man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on a forest road in Rio Arriba County, according to a New Mexico State Police news release.

Johnny M. Leyba, 47, was killed just before midnight Friday when his 1999 Ford F-250 left Forest Road 559 and rolled down an embankment near Canjilon, according to the release.

Leyba was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the state Office of the Medical Investigator.

State police said the initial investigation did not reveal why the vehicle left the roadway. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, but the news release added seatbelts were “not properly utilized.”
