Auburn , CA : Eight people injured in a three-car crash at Highway 49 near Combie Road On Sunday, May 22nd, 2016
A crash involving three vehicles on Highway 49 near Lake of the Pines injured eight, with two people airlifted and six others taken by ambulance to area hospitals Saturday afternoon.
The accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. on Highway 49 near Combie Road, according to Eli Deakle, communications officer with the Cal Fire Grass Valley Command Center.
One of the injured was airlifted by CALSTAR and the other by Reach Air Ambulance out of Marysville, he said.
One of the vehicles was a bus, Deakle said. But he had no additional information on the size or occupants of the bus or on the other two vehicles.
According to a KCRA report from the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred where two northbound lanes of Highway 49 merge into one. As two cars attempted to merge at the same time, one slid into the southbound lane and hit a third
vehicle head-on.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
