A 55-year-old bicyclist who was struck by a truck last week has died, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The collision occurred at 4:50 p.m. April as both the pickup driver and bicyclist were headed east on San Miguel Drive near Park Richey Boulevard outside the Regency Palms Apartments. The bicyclist, a Port Richey man, died at a hospital Sunday, six days later, the Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The bicyclist was riding on the shoulder of the road as the pickup approached from behind but moved into the travel lane as the pickup started to pass, the Highway Patrol said. The pickup driver was a 70-year-old Port Richey man.

The Highway Patrol did not identify either man or the make of the vehicles. Whether charges were filed also was not indicated.

Such information is now withheld under a state policy released Saturday that brings the Highway Patrol in line with other Florida law enforcement agencies in its interpretation of Marsy’s law. Passed by voters in 2018 as an amendment to the state Constitution, the law is intended to protect crime victims.
