Orange City, FL : Three-vehicle crash in a pile-up on State Road 6, at the entrance of Blue Springs State Park on 7th August, 2020

A chain-reaction in the late morning hours of Friday, Aug. 7, caused three vehicles to be involved in a pile-up on State Road 6, at the entrance of Blue Springs State Park, just inside the Madison/Hamilton County line. According to information provided by Cpl. P.J. Shaw, of the Florida Highway Patrol, all three vehicles were traveling east on State Road 6, when one vehicle stopped to turn left into the park. A second vehicle, a Ford SUV, was also traveling east. The second vehicle attempted to stop, but due to following too closely, the second vehicle collided with the rear of the first vehicle. A third vehicle was also traveling east on State Road 6 and collided with the rear of the second vehicle.

The first and third vehicles received minor damage and did not need to be towed from the scene. The second vehicle clearly received the worst of the damage and had to be carried away. The driver of the second vehicle was ticketed with following too closely. That was the only citation given out during the incident. Although Madison County EMS responded to the crash, there were no serious injuries. "This is a very tricky spot," said Cpl. Shaw. "Because of the hills on both sides of the entrance to [Blue Springs] Park, drivers coming from either direction need to be extra cautious when approaching that intersection."
