Columbia County,WI : Columbia County crash involving semi and school bus leaves four seriously injured on May,Wednesday 23rd 2018

A semi truck rear-ended a bus, which was parked on the shoulder of the interstate due to a mechanical issue, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

An original press release stated there were four injuries. An updated release now lists there were 20 injuries, with four of the injuries deemed serious.

According to the release, there were approximately 33 people on the bus, which was transporting students from a Milwaukee-area private school. Two of the four who were seriously injured were evacuated from the scene via Med Flight; the other two were transported to area hospitals.

Another bus was sent from Milwaukee to pick up the remaining passengers.

The crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. May 23 on I-39/90/94 northbound in Columbia County, just over the Dane County border, near DeForest.

Assisting agencies included Marshall Rescue, Waunakee Rescue, Divine Savior EMS, Med Flight, Flight For Life, Lodi Rescue, Poynette Rescue, City of Madison Rescue, Middleton EMS, Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Dane County Sheriff's Office and the DeForest Police Department.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is still investigating the incident.
