Motorcyclist killed in Middletown crash in Fair Haven New Jersey
A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his motorcycle crashed on Route 213 near the Reedman Toll Auto World property in Middletown.Police said Michael Deperro, of West Richardson Avenue in Langhorne, was riding eastbound on Route 213 about 9:32 a.m. Saturday. Deperro’s motorcycle was in the right lane when he passed another vehicle in the left lane; when he pulled back into the right lane to go around a vehicle in the left lane, he lost control of the motorcycle, police said.Deperro was killed after he was ejected from the motorcycle, which slid about 150 feet before colliding with the abutment of the Reedman Toll overpass above Route 213 connecting the main property with the rear lot.Police said they believe Deperro was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but a helmet, with the hook that attaches it to a motorcycle still on, was found at the scene.The two drivers Deperro passed were interviewed. Police said speed was a factor in the crash and they do not suspect substance abuse.In 2010, there were 223 fatal motorcycle accidents in Pennsylvania, 13 in Bucks County and seven in Montgomery County; and in 2009, there were 204 statewide, eight in Bucks and six in Montgomery County.Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call Officer Mark McLeod at 215-750-3845, extension 460.In 2003, the last year motorcyclists were required to wear helmets, there were 156 fatal motorcycle crashes statewide, six in Bucks and seven in Montgomery counties.There were reports of another serious motorcycle crash in Upper Makefield on Saturday night, however, police were not available to release information on the incident.
