Pawtucket, RI : woman killed, three hurt in wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 in Rhode Island on Sunday morning, March 8, 2015

An alleged drunk driver made his way onto the highway around 1 o'clock Sunday morning, on 95 north – just before exit 26 in Pawtucket,

Clearly marked with “DO NOT ENTER” signs, he took the off-ramp onto the highway in the wrong direction.

Immediately entering the highway, 23-year-old Jeremy Leiva hit Andrea and Scott Spillane's truck which was traveling in the fast lane.

"None of the four people involved were wearing seat belts, said Rhode Island State Police Sergeant, Simon Liu.

Leiva's 26 year old passenger was killed.

It's unclear how fast he was going but the speed limit is 50 miles per hour.

Liu said, "Well, it's sad. I mean we'll never know but possibly if she had her seat belt on it could have saved her life.”

Police say they noticed Leiva was intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with killing his passenger and for felony dui.

"The lesson learned here is to not drink and drive," said Liu.

The driver could serve up a minimum of 5 years for causing this woman's death.
