Cambridge, OH : OVI charges filed after hit-skip crash downtown on Saturday, December, 16th 2017
A hit-skip crash by an alleged intoxicated driver and disorderly conduct landed a Cumberland woman behind bars late Saturday evening.
Police charged Angela J. Hollins, 36, with single counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence, operating a vehicle while under the influence (high test), red light violation, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield, expired registration and disorderly conduct.
Hollins is scheduled to appear in the Cambridge Municipal Court to answer to the charges. She has since been released from the county jail.
According to Cambridge police reports, officers were dispatched to a Wheeling Avenue business at approximately 6:37 p.m. in reference to an intoxicated woman behaving in a disorderly manner. The female, later identified as Hollins, had left the business prior to the arrival of police.
An officer located Hollins’ vehicle parked on North 10th Street and tried to stop her before she drove away.
The report indicated Hollins was driving a 2009 Chevrolet and nearly struck a passing vehicle when she tried to pull onto the roadway from the space where she was parked on North 10th Street.
Hollins reportedly continued driving forward onto the street and struck a parked 2015 Chevrolet owned by Erin M. Simmons of Cambridge. The Simmons vehicle sustained moderate damage in the collision, as did the Hollins vehicle.
Hollins reportedly continued driving on North 10th Street to the intersection with Steubenville Avenue where she was stopped by a police officer. Officers noted an odor of alcohol coming from Hollins and her speech was slurred.
Officers attempted to conduct field sobriety tests at the scene, but Hollins refused to cooperate and reportedly made “faces” at the officer during the tests.
She was taken to the Cambridge Police Department where she submitted to a breath-analysis test that registered her blood-alcohol level at 0.197 — more than twice the legal limit (0.08) in Ohio.
Hollins reportedly continued her disorderly conduct at the police department, talking over officers giving her instructions and licking the breath-analysis tube prior to submitting a valid sample. She also reportedly stuck her tongue out and blew toward the ground instead of in the BAC machine.
Officers believe Hollins is the same female they were dispatched to investigate at a Park Circle business just two hours prior to the accident. The female suspect left prior to the arrival of police, but the description of the woman and the vehicle reportedly matched Hollins and the vehicle she was driving.
The incidents remained under investigation by Cambridge police.
