2 dead in overnight three-car accident on Tampa Florida
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a three-car crash that claimed the lives of two Florida residents.It happened early Sunday shortly after 2 a.m. on Interstate 4 near McIntosh Road.According to reports, 49-year-old Ramiro Echevarria Muniz was driving a Honda Accord east in the westbound lanes.Meantime, a 28-year-old man was traveling west in a Volkswagen Touareg with two passengers.
A third vehicle, an Oldsmobile Alero, was also westbound, with 51-year-old Christine Yates at the wheel. She was also carrying a 21-year-old passenger.
Troopers say the front of the Honda collided with the front of the Volkswagen.As a result of the impact, the Honda spun into the outside lane -- hitting the Oldsmobile.
The Oldsmobile reportedly went off the road onto the shoulder.
According to investigators, Yates overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip onto its roof -- partially ejecting Yates out of the driver's door window.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews pronounced Muniz and Yates dead at the scene.Muniz was listed as being from Polk City, and Yates was from Deltona.Everyone else involved in the accident received either minor or no injuries.Charges are reportedly pending in this case, but the incident is still under investigation.
