An 80-year-old Eugene woman and a 28-year-old Bend man were killed in a vehicle crash near Black Butte Ranch on Sunday afternoon.
According to Oregon State Police, Katherine L. Sales was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox west on Highway 20 near the entrance to the resort community near Sisters about 3 p.m. when a 1996 Subaru Legacy, driven by Ethan G. Moreschi, crossed the center line and collided with Sales’ vehicle.
Sales and Moreschi were pronounced dead at the scene.
Robert A. Lounsbury, 49, of North Bend was driving a motor home and towing a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe behind Sales when the crash occurred. When Lounsbury tried to avoid the collision, he hit an eastbound 1998 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Timothy R. Thompson, 28, of Newberg.
Thompson was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries considered to be life-threatening.
Lounsbury was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Tammy R. Lounsbury, 53, of North Bend was not injured.
According to police, Moreschi and Thompson knew each other and had been at the same place shortly before the crash. Impairment is being considered as a contributing factor for Moreschi and Thompson, police said.
