Joppa, MD : Abingdon man was dead in a motorcycle crash on early Sunday morning September 14th 2014
An Abingdon man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Joppa early Sunday morning, the fourth fatal crash on Harford County roads since Friday.
Bernard Cross, 52, of the 700 block of Perthshire Place in Abingdon, was riding a Harley Davidson FXDB east on Route 7 near Mandeville Lane, Maryland State Police reported.
The motorcycle went off the road and hit a telephone pole, ejecting Cross, according to a press release.
Cross was found by a resident who reported the crash to the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack at about 1:26 a.m., according to the release.
Cross was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
Speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the accident, based on the preliminary investigation, according to the release.
Cross' family was notified by an off-duty Baltimore City police officer. He arrived on the scene and was a friend of the family, Sgt. Yingling said.
Route 7 was closed for about two hours for reconstruction of the accident. Joppa-Magnolia Fire Company responded to the incident.
The crash was the latest in a spate of fatal accidents over the weekend.
On Saturday night, a 43-year-old man was killed after being hit by a car in Edgewood, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said.
That crash happened just before 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of Trimble Road.
Two men also died in separate accidents within a mile of each other on Route 152 in Joppa on Friday evening.
Edward Schlossenberg, 41, of the 1400 block of Primrose Place in Belcamp, and Joseph Kraft, 52, of the first block of Thelma Street in Timonium, were killed in the accidents, reported at about 6:40 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday.
Alcohol and speed were not believed to be factors in those incidents.
Another motorcyclist was flown to a trauma center with serious injuries after a crash earlier on Friday in Fallston, at Belair Road and Milton Avenue.
Sunday morning's crash brings the total number of fatal accidents for 2014 in Harford to 15.
