CRAIGMONT, ID : Two injured in crash near Craigmont on Wednesday, 26th October 2016
Police say a semi-truck caught fire around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when a 2,300-pound load being carried on a second semi-truck shifted and fell onto Highway 95 near Craigmont.
The crash occurred when Israel Rodriguez, 48, of El Paso, Texas, was driving northbound on Highway 95 in a semi-truck and he slowed to avoid a deer, according to Idaho State Police.
The change in speeds caused Rodriguez’s load to shift, sending a 2,300-pound ingot of lead onto the roadway.
Samuel Tobias, 27, of Nampa, was southbound and struck the ingot, causing the front axle of his semi-truck to rip out, sending the vehicle skidding on the roadway, according to ISP.
The truck driven by Tobias came to rest on the northbound side of the road, near the ditch and also started on fire. As Tobias exited his truck, he was struck by a vehicle that fell off the top of the car carrier he was hauling
Mark Wisnefsky, 56, of Caldwell, was a passenger in Tobias’ vehicle.
Both Tobias and Wisnefsky were injured in the crash.
Rodriguez was issued a citation for traveling with an unsecured load.
