A 64-year-old Independence man died after crashing into a garbage truck in Tangipahoa Parish.

State police identified the victim in Tuesday's accident as Edward W. Stewart. They say the garbage truck was stopped on Louisiana Highway 442. Stewart was driving a pickup truck when he ran into the rear of the garbage truck. Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers are investigating.

The crash also seriously injured a 33-year-old worker who was collecting garbage while the truck was stopped.
