Chesterton, IN : Hebron woman dies in ATV accident on Wednesday, October, 11th 2017
A Hebron woman was found dead Wednesday after the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said she crashed her all-terrain vehicle a day earlier.
According to DNR, at 6:40 a.m. Denise Fabian, 53, was found deceased in a pond behind her home in the 100 south block of C.R. 725W, pinned beneath an ATV.
Conservation Officers subsequently learned that Fabian’s husband returned home from work on Tuesday evening to find his wife and their ATV gone. At the time her husband was unconcerned, as it wasn’t unusual for Fabian to take the ATV to visit friends, the DNR said. On waking Wednesday morning, however, to discover her still gone, Fabian’s husband contacted family to help look for her, the DNR said.
Investigators now believe that, sometime between 5 and 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Fabian left her residence on a Cam Am four-wheeler, possibly to search for a family pet. She was apparently traveling down a hill when, finding the trail blocked by brush, she attempted to turn the ATV around, but the steep angle of the incline caused the ATV to roll over and into the pond, trapping her beneath, the DNR said.
The investigation is ongoing and foul play is not suspected, the DNR said. Assisting Conservation Officers at the scene were the Porter County Sheriff’s Police and the Coroner’s Office.
