PARSIPPANY, NJ : Victims identified in fatal motorcycle crash on Rt. 287 in Parsippany on Sunday, 25th September 2016
Route 287 southbound in the vicinity of Entin Road was partially shut down Sunday by New Jersey State Police as they investigated a motorcycle crash that left two people dead, according to township Mayor James Barberio and state police.
The double fatal crash occurred at 11:11 a.m. on Rt. 287 southbound near mile marker 41.2. The two people were riding on one motorcycle, said Trooper Alejandro Goez, a State Police spokesman.
A 1994 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Rt. 287 when it ran off the road to the right, struck a guardrail and ejected both riders, according to an update posted on NJSP Facebook page.
The victims were identified as James Ruggiero Jr., 56, and passenger, Denise Hannon, 53, both of Hamburg.Members of the Parisppany police and fire departments were on the scene to assist with the partial lane closures of the Rt. 287 local lanes for approximately three hours. The express lanes remained open.
Barberio said he learned from his police department as they assisted with detours and traffic control that two people were killed. The double fatality investigation had been posted on the Facebook page of the NJSP.
All lanes were reopened around 2:30 p.m., according to a post by the State Police.
Since Friday evening in Morris County, there have been multiple motorcycle crashes, including in Jefferson, Rockaway and Morristown. Late Friday, a Boonton resident suffered facial injuries and a serious leg injury when he lost control of his Harley Davidson in the rain and crashed into a retaining wall at the Knoll Country Club in Parsippany.
