PELHAM, NH : Pelham woman injured in crash police say she caused on Friday, 23rd September 2016
A 73-year-old woman caused a three-car crash on Mammoth Road Friday afternoon, leading to injuries to herself and a Lowell woman, police said in a press release.
At 3:04 p.m., members of Pelham Police and Fire, along with the Hudson Fire Department, responded to the crash at 1183 Mammoth Road.
Sally Major, 73, of Pelham, failed to negotiate a slight right turn in her Mercedes station wagon and crossed the center line, striking a Ford SUV head-on, police said. The Ford was driven by 47-year-old Maryjo McCreedy, of Lowell, who was with her 4-year-old and infant grandchildren.
The third vehicle involved was a Toyota pickup truck, driven by Mark Bailey, 47, of Pelham. He saw the crash in front of him and swerved to avoid it, but struck the rear corner of McCreedy's car. Police determined that Major caused the crash.
Major suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, where the trauma team was activated.
McCreedy suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Lowell General Hospital. The children in the car were properly restrained in child-safety seats and were not injured.
Bailey said he was not injured and denied medical attention at the scene.
The Mercedes and Ford both sustained extensive front-end damage. The Toyota was damaged on the passenger front corner. All three vehicles were towed.
Mammoth Road was limited to one lane of travel for about an hour. The crash remains under investigation.
