VERNON, OH : A Warren firefighter was killed in an ATV crash on Wednesday, 14th March 2018
A Warren firefighter was killed in an ATV crash Wednesday evening, according to a Trumbull County 911 Center report.
Casey L. Klein, 42, 5368 Fisher Corinth Road, was not on duty at the time of the accident, according to Warren Fire Capt. Al Brown. A train operator from Norfolk Southern Railroad called 911 just before 6 p.m. to report seeing an ATV in a ditch near the intersection of Fisher Corinth Road NE and old state Route 5 in Vernon, according to a call log.
The train operator said the ATV was on top of a man who was not moving, the report states.
It appears Klein lost control in the swamp area, according to the report. The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and the Johnston Fire Department went to the scene and a medical helicopter was initially called, but later canceled, the report states.
Norfolk Southern Railroad sent an investigator to the area from Pittsburgh just before 8 p.m.
Brown said Klein has been with the Warren Fire Department since 2001. Shortly after the news of his death began to spread, people began sending their condolences to Klein’s Facebook page.
Klein, according to his social media account, served in the U.S. Air Force. He went to Maplewood High School.
