Wilmington, DE : Pedestrian killed in Laurel crash on Friday night, September 9, 2016

A pedestrian was killed Friday night in Laurel when Delaware State Police says he attempted to run across U.S. 13.

Around 9:22 p.m., Seaford resident Chad W. Everett, 45, was driving a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser southbound on Sussex Highway in the right lane near Chipman's Lane, police said. The adult male pedestrian ran across the southbound lanes and collided with the side of the PT Cruiser before landing on the pavement, police said.

The vehicle came to a controlled stop after the collision, police said. The man was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the pedestrian, who is from Mexico, will be withheld until his family is notified, police said.
