Columbus ,OH : One killed in crash with Ohio sheriff's deputy pursuing suspect on Monday morning ,July 13th 2015
Authorities say one person has died in a crash involving a Franklin County Sheriff's deputy in Columbus.
The crash occurred around 9 a.m. Monday on the southwest side of the city. Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert tells The Columbus Dispatch a deputy driving an SUV was responding to another deputy's call for assistance pursuing a driver who was believed to be drunk.
The deputy in the SUV was pursuing the suspect when he collided with a van making a left turn onto the same road. The driver of the van was ejected, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the car initially being pursued crashed about two miles away and was taken into custody.
