Chilton County, AL : Birmingham man died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Chilton County on Tuesday morning, Aug 25, 2015
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is identifying the victim killed in an early Tuesday morning crash along Interstate 65 in Chilton County as a Birmingham man.
Michael David Kolarchick, 58, was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash near the 203 mile marker, approximately one mile south of Clanton.
Investigators say Kolarchick was driving a 2000 Volvo tractor trailor when it collided with a 2001 Freightliner. The driver of the other vehicle, Jejuan Powell, of Montgomery, was not injured.
The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. and blocked all northbound lanes of the interstate for sometime until ALEA officials and crews could clear the scene. According to our sister station WBRC Fox 6, one of the tractor trailers overturned and caught fire.
The roadway has since reopened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
