Chicago, IL : 2 men killed in Dan Ryan crash early Sunday, December 4, 2016

Two men, one from Florida, died when the Florida man's car was rear-ended by the other man's SUV on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 43rd Street early Sunday, Illinois State Police said.

About 2:55 a.m., a blue 2016 Jeep that was speeding rear-ended a black 2017 Chevrolet that was sitting on the shoulder of the southbound express lane, according to a statement from state police. Michael Schaaf, 27, of Tinley Park, the driver of the Jeep, and Eugene N. Ackerman, 72, of Boynton Beach, Fla., the driver of the Chevrolet, both died following the crash.

Neither driver had passengers in their vehicles.

Police received reports that the Jeep was being driven extremely recklessly before the crash, according to the release.

The crash remains under investigation.
