Weston, FL : Four people died in head-on collision on U.S. 27 in Broward County on Tuesday, Sep 8, 2015
Four people were killed when a man driving the wrong way on U.S. 27 in Weston crashed his car head-on into another vehicle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Nathan Wine, 27, of Delray Beach was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 near Interstate 75 when he crashed into a Toyota Sequoia that was traveling northbound just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Wine's white Volvo spun off the roadway after the impact, landing in the median. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three people inside the Toyota SUV were also killed. The driver, Hermis Ruiz, 67, of Clewiston and two passengers, Daisy Zayas, 62, of Clewiston and Ines Zayas Pena, 63, from Havana, Cuba.
A fourth passenger, Minerio Ruiz Torres, 69, was airlifted to Broward Health North after he was found wandering around the scene of the crash in a state of shock. Early Wednesday, FHP said Torres had suffered serious injuries.
Only Torrres and Ruiz were wearing seatbelts.
It is unclear if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 27 were closed for several hours but reopened around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
