An 18-year-old Afton woman was killed early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash in extreme southeast Kansas, authorities said.
The crash occurred at 6:50 a.m. Sunday on northbound K-7 highway, about three miles north of Columbus.
According the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2000 Oldsmobile passenger car was northbound on K-7 when it slowly veered off the west side of the roadway and struck a culvert. The car then overturned and landed in the southbound ditch.
The driver of the car, Kayla Geier-Mercer, of Afton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
