REXBURG, ID : BYU-Idaho Neuroscience major killed in car crash on Saturday, 20th April 2019
A Brigham Young University-Idaho student was killed in a single car accident on Saturday near Nephi, Utah, on I-15 near mile marker 229.
The Utah Highway Patrol reported that George Locke Edwards, 21, of Los Vegas, succumbed to injuries resulting from the crash.
“The vehicle rolled several times as it crossed the median and southbound travel lanes. The vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the southbound travel lane. The driver, who was restrained, died as a result of the crash,” reported Utah Patrol in a statement.Officers believe that Edwards may have been distracted while driving.
“This is a very long scene and (police) suspect that a high speed is also a factor,” it reported.
Portions of the interstate were closed for a while to allow officers to investigate the scene for evidence.
According to Mr. Locke’s obituary published on the Legacy.com, his time at BYU-Idaho was spent “loving, learning and looking forward to a career in Neuroscience.”
Mr. Locke was an Eagle Scout and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Washington Kennewick Mission.
“He will be remembered for the light he was, his ability to create fun, his distinctive laughter, his fierce love for his family, his unwavering example of faith and a sure testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” stated Mr. Locke’s obituary.
The obituary noted Mr. Locke’s great belief in life after life.
“In Locke's own words, ‘I firmly believe that our loved ones, who have passed on, continue to bless our lives,’” it reported.
