Washington County , UT : 79- Years old man killed in ATV rollover Crash at the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area on Friday night , January 9th 2015

A man died Friday after his ATV rolled on top of him during a group ride on the Welcome Springs trails in the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area of western Washington County, near Utah Hill.

“Most of the group were on RZRs, but the guy who actually crashed was on an ATV,” Mike Thomas, Washington County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue commander, said. “They had stopped, and this guy went and explored a side canyon by himself. He didn’t come back in a reasonable amount of time so they went looking for him. He had gotten off trail, and the four-wheeler rolled on top of him.”

No lifesaving efforts were made by emergency crews, as the man was dead when his friends found him. The St. George Communications Center received the emergency call via satellite phone at approximately 2 p.m., when the group found the man.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was 79 years old and was in the area visiting his winter home in Littlefield, Arizona, Washington County Sheriff’s Sgt. David Crouse said.

Bureau of Land Management rangers, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies, Washington County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Life Flight and Ivins City Fire and Rescue responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
