Terre Haute, IN : Clinton woman arrested after Lyford crash on Thursday, December, 14th 2017
A Clinton woman was arrested following a Thursday crash on U.S. 41 near Second Street in Lyford in southern Parke County.
Frankie M. Cox, 24, was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and false informing.
Cox was the driver of a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am that struck two utility poles, snapping them in half and downing power lines.
Witnesses at the scene told police the driver and her passenger had left the area following the crash. A short time later, deputies located Cox and another woman walking south on U.S. 41 about a mile from the accident scene. The women were interviewed and admitted to police they left the scene to avoid going to jail.
The passenger — Nickie J. Brenton, 46, of Clinton — was taken to Union Hospital Clinton for a broken ankle.
Cox told police she fell asleep at the wheel while driving north. Police learned Cox’s driving privileges were suspended. She was taken to the Parke County Jail at Rockville.
Assisting were the Vermillion County sheriff’s deputies, Parke County EMS and Lyford Fire.
