Tangent, OR : Albany drivers injured in Hwy. 99E collision near Tangent on Monday morning, October 13, 2014
A two-vehicle collision near Tangent closed north and southbound lanes of Highway 99E for more than an hour Monday morning and sent two people to the hospital.
Oregon State Police provided this account:
Shortly before 8 a.m., a 2007 GMC Yukon driven Ellen L. Mary, 67, of Albany crossed over into the northbound lane of 99E at McFarland Road and collided head-on with a 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup driven by Karenetta J. Adams, 60, of Sweet Home.
Tangent Fire Chief Scott Casebolt said it took 25 minutes to extricate Adams from the pickup.
She was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with serious injuries, then flown by REACH air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.
Mary was transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
OSP is still investigating the crash.
The collision occurred in heavy morning fog.
For a time, traffic on 99E was diverted at Looney Lane and McFarland Road, but one southbound lane was reopened around 9:40 a.m.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Linn County Sheriff's Office, Albany Police Department, Tangent Rural Fire District, Albany Fire Department, and ODOT.
