Newburgh Heights , OH : Two people and one police officer were injured after pickup truck going by at a high rate of speed hit the cruiser and then flipped over on Friday ,December 12th 2014

A police officer has been discharged from the hospital after an accident on Interstate 77 sent him and another person to Metro Friday evening.

The accident occurred about 6:45 p.m. when a Newburgh Heights police officer had pulled over a vehicle on I-77 northbound near Fleet Avenue. The police car was on the side of the road with its lights flashing, according to Police Chief John Majoy.

A pickup truck going by at a high rate of speed hit the cruiser and then flipped over.

Both the officer, Shawn Finch, 42, and pickup truck driver, also a male, were taken to Metro.

Finch was expected to be released overnight. The condition of the other driver was not available.
