Laflin, PA : Man badly hurt in crash on state Route 315 in Laflin on Wednesday night, January 4, 2017
A man was seriously hurt Wednesday night when his car got trapped underneath a tractor-trailer in an accident on Route 315 in Laflin.
The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 315 and Pittston Avenue.
A four-door passenger car heading south on state Route 315 collided with a tractor-trailer that was turning left from Pittston Avenue onto Route 315 North, according to Laflin Assistant Fire Chief Drew Malvizzi.
The car was wedged under the tractor-trailer and the car’s driver was trapped in the vehicle for about 10 minutes before rescue crews extricated him, Malvizzi said.
The driver appeared to be seriously hurt but was able to respond to emergency workers at the scene, according to Malvizzi.
The man was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Malvizzi said. His name had not been released as of late Wednesday night.
There were no passengers in the car and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured, Malvizzi said.
State Route 315 was reduced to one travel lane near the accident scene. The tractor-trailer, which bore a New York license plate, remained in the roadway more than an hour after the accident.
Laflin and Jenkins Township firefighters, Plains Ambulance and state police responded.
