Lowell, IN : 18-year-old man seriously injured in crash with semi near I-65 in northwest Indiana on Saturday, November 22, 2014
A Hebron man was in serious condition Sunday after his car struck a semitrailer attempting to turn onto a ramp to I-65 near Lowell, police said.
Andrew Roe, 18, was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary with serious injuries after the crash about 10 p.m. on Ind. 2, police said.
The semi driver told police he was westbound on Ind. 2 and began to make a left turn onto the ramp to southbound Interstate 65, according to Indiana State Police.
As the semi driver made the turn, the light turned yellow and then green, and the semi was hit in the passenger side by a 2007 Chrysler driven by Roe, police said. Roe was in the right lane going east on Ind. 2.
The semi driver was not hurt in the crash.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management was called because diesel fuel was spilled after the crash, police said. The semi driver had just filled his tank with about 200 gallons of diesel, police said.
The Chrysler and semi had to be towed, police said.
