Davis, CA : 65-year-old woman dies in Road 102 collision north of Davis on Monday morning, March 20, 2017
A 65-year-old Davis woman died and her passenger suffered major injuries after their car was struck head-on by another vehicle Monday morning on County Road 102 north of Davis.
The woman’s name had not been released by Yolo County coroner’s officials as of Monday evening, pending notification of next of kin.
California Highway Patrol Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said the woman was at the wheel of a northbound Kia sedan that collided head-on with a southbound Toyota pickup at about 11:50 a.m. The driver of the Toyota, 59-year-old Randolph Tafoya of Woodland, had drifted onto the right shoulder, overcorrected and veered into the northbound lane near County Road 29.
Tafoya sustained minor injuries in the crash, Fitzhugh said. Both he and the Kia passenger, a 71-year-old Davis woman whose name also was not immediately released, were transported to the UC Davis Medical Center.
Both directions of Road 102 were shut down and traffic diverted during the crash investigation.
