Kingsburg, CA : 89-year-old Selma woman died in a two-car collision near Kingsburg on Tuesday, April 28, 2015

A two-car collision near Kingsburg Tuesday resulted in the death of an 89-year-old Selma woman, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just after 5:45 p.m. near Sixth Avenue, just north of Bangor Avenue. CHP said 62-year-old Maria Jesus Gonzalez-Valdez had been driving her 2004 Cadillac Escalade southbound on Sixth Avenue approaching Meli’s Grocery at 45 mph. Inside the car with her were Petra Rodriguez, 69, and Guadalupe Cano, 68, and the victim.

Ruben Orona was in his 2014 Hyundai Sonata heading east out of Meli’s Grocery parking lot. As Orona entered the southbound lane of Sixth Avenue, he reportedly pulled out in front of Gonzalez-Valdez.

The front of his Hyundai then crashed into the right side of the Cadillac causing it to overturn.

The front passenger in the Cadillac, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was ultimately ejected front the car. She sustained fatal injuries as a result.

All others involved in the crash suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
