Harrisburg, PA : 81-year-old dies in Route 611 crash in Slate Belt on Saturday, February 18th 2017
An 81-year-old man died late Saturday when he lost control of his pickup truck and collided head on with a minvan on Route 611 in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Authorities identified the victim as Dale Bower, of New Tripoli in Lehigh County.
The minvan driver suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill. State police identified him as William M. Bright, 57, of Bangor.
The crash happened about 10:50 p.m. on Route 611, just south of Church Road in Lower Mount Bethel.
Bower was southbound when he lost control at a sharp curve and went into the opposite lane, according to state police at the Belfast barracks. His pickup collided with the front of Bright's minivan.
State police said Bright was wearing a seat belt but Bower was not.
Bower was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:50 p.m. by the Northampton County Coroner's Office, state police said.
Besides state police, responding to the call were the Lower Mount Bethel Township Fire Co., fire police, Suburban EMS and C&G Towing.
Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville had identified Bower as missing earlier in the day Saturday and had stated he was "at risk of harm or injury." An investigating trooper Sunday was not immediately available to provide further information.
