Rawlins, WY :Bairoil woman killed in Sunday wreck just north of Rawlins on Sunday, July 5th 2015
A fatal crash on July 5th has resulted in the death of 64 year old Linda J. Brantner of Bairoil, Wyoming. The crash occurred at 5:00 p.m. at mile post 16 on US Highway 287 approximately 16 miles north of Rawlins, Wyoming.Linda Brantner was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup north on US 287 in heavy rainfall and wet road conditions. A 2008 Jeep Wrangler, driven by 58 year old Robert Harlow of Oceanside, California was traveling south on US 287. The northbound Chevy pickup driven by Brantner hydroplaned on the wet road and crossed the centerline perpendicular to the southbound lane in front of the oncoming Jeep driven by Harlow. The two vehicles crashed as Mr. Harlow was unable to avoid striking the oncoming Chevy.Linda Brantner was wearing her seat belt but still sustained fatal injuries on scene. Mr. Harlow and his passenger, 59 year old Susan Harlow, were both wearing their seat belts and were taken by ground ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins. Mr. Harlow has been treated and released. Susan Harlow was hospitalized and her status is unknown at this time.The crash did cause a temporary closure of US 287 from 5:17 p.m. until 6:29 p.m. Speed too fast for the wet road and the worn tire condition of the Chevy are being investigated as contributing factors in this 67th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 70 fatalities in this same time period in 2014.
