STOUGHTON, MA : Driver shatters pole in Stoughton crash on Thursday, November, 23rd 2017
A utility pole was smashed and wires were strewn across a busy street Friday morning, causing a lengthy road closure.
Officers first received a motion alarm at the Stoughton Co-Operative Bank on Park Street about 4:48 a.m. While responding to the bank to verify there was no issue, officers learned that a vehicle had struck a pole near 803 Park St., likely leading to the alarm.
A Subaru vehicle struck a utility pole, causing the pole to snap, which brought wires down with it.
The driver, a male teenager who lives in Stoughton, was not seriously injured. He was evaluated at the scene by paramedics, but declined to be taken to a hospital.
The street remained closed for hours between Ash and Seventh streets as crews with National Grid worked to repair the pole. Several customers also lost power when the crash occurred.
Police say the driver did not show any signs of intoxication and the cause of the crash is still under investigation. No charges had been filed as of Friday morning.
