Leitchfield, KY : Two injured in motorcycle crash on Wednesday, 18th April 2018
Two Leitchfield residents were injured in a motorcycle crash on William Thomason Byway on Wednesday afternoon, April 18.
At approximately 2:34 p.m. on Wednesday, the Leitchfield Police Department (LPD), Leitchfield Fire Department, and Grayson County EMS responded to the intersection of William Thomason Byway (the bypass) and Halee Lane, near the rear entrance to Walmart, on a reported motorcycle crash with injuries.
According to the accident report filed by LPD Sergeant Robert Jackson, leading up to the crash, a 2006 Yamaha XV1900 motorcycle, operated by 65-year-old Terry Ward, of Leitchfield, was travelling north on the bypass in a staggered motorcycle formation in which the motorcycle he was driving was in the third position.
As the formation of motorcycles approached the rear entrance to Walmart, a vehicle in front of them, without warning or turn signal, came to an abrupt stop at the entrance in order to make a left turn, the report states.
Ward told police that the first two motorcycles leading the formation were able to maneuver around to the right of the vehicle, and he did as well, but as he cleared, he was sideswiped by a 1997 Honda VF750, operated by 45-year-old William Evans, of Leitchfield, whom was behind him, the report reads.
