Leesburg, FL : Man dead in patrol-car crash in Lake County on Monday evening, December 26, 2016
A man died after a four-car crash Monday evening in Leesburg. One of the vehicles involved was a Leesburg police cruiser.
The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. near County Road 44 and U.S. 441.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a man driving a red Toyota Prius rear-ended a police vehicle, which caused a chain reaction as the police vehicle hit two other cars.
The Prius driver, who was 74 years old, died at a local hospital. His name hasn't been released.
The officer, identified as 43-year-old David Carter, suffered minor injuries.
Two other people involved in the crash also suffered minor injuries.
Authorities are still investigating factors such as speed and whether the stoplight at the scene had just turned green or was yellow.
