Newnan ,GA : Car crashes snarl traffic in Coweta on August, Thursday 31th 2017
Portions of several busy Coweta roads were tied up following traffic accidents on Thursday.
Just before lunch, Bullsboro Drive was closed for an hour following a two-car accident when the driver of an F-150 pickup truck was pulling out of the El Charro parking lot onto Hwy. 34 and failed to yield to a red Jeep Cherokee traveling east, according to Officer Scott Milam with the Newnan Police Department.
The driver of the truck stuck the front passenger side tire of the Jeep, causing the vehicle to flip over onto its roof and slide down the road before coming to a stop.
The truck veered off, struck a curb and traveled down an embankment before striking a utility pole, which stopped the truck, Milam said.
The driver of the Jeep was removed from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to Piedmont Newnan Hospital with complaints of neck and back pain, according to Milam. The driver of the truck, identified as James Carter, was not injured and was cited for failure to yield.
The affected portion of Bullsboro Drive was closed for around an hour while the accident was investigated and the cars were removed from the ditch and roadway.
Hours earlier, a three-car accident tied up traffic in front of East Coweta High School on Hwy. 154. While there were no injuries, the roadway was blocked as the accident was investigated.
Even with recent rainy conditions, many drivers are continuing to drive without regard for safety, according to Sgt. Mike Adock with the Georgia State Patrol.
“We just want to remind people to drive cautiously, use their lights, and take a little extra time to get where they’re going,” he said. “So much of hydroplaning is caused from older tires, so we ask folks to please check them to ensure they’re in good shape.”
