Mitchell, SD : No injuries reported in three-vehicle crash in Mitchell on Saturday, July 9, 2016
No injuries were reported as a result of a three-vehicle collision Saturday at the intersection of Norway Avenue and Burr Street in Mitchell.
At 3:24 p.m., two vehicles were stopped at a red light in northbound traffic at the intersection, when a vehicle driven by Ruth Thompson, 88, of Huron, crashed into the back of the vehicles, according to Mitchell Patrol Officer Brad Buysse.
Thompson, who was driving a Chrysler Sebring, told police she didn't realize the two cars were stopped, and Buysse said she hit the back vehicle, a white Saab, driven by Maryanna McCullough, 17, of Mitchell, while traveling approximately 35-40 mph.
The force of the crash forced McCullough's vehicle into the back of a maroon GMC Yukon, driven by David Lachnit, of Mitchell.
Thompson and McCullough's vehicles were both totaled, Buysse said, while Lachnit's vehicle suffered rear-end damage.
Nobody involved was transported to the hospital, and all were wearing seat belts, but Buysse said McCullough went to the hospital after leaving the crash as a precaution.
Thompson was cited for careless driving.
