Enid, OK : Ponca City man injured in accident on Tuesday September 6 2016
A Ponca City man was injured in an accident that reduced U.S. 412 to one lane early Tuesday.
Chance Mayhall, 21, was transported with a leg injury to St. Mary's Regional Medical Center following the 8:32 a.m. accident at the intersection of 66th and U.S. 412, according to an Enid Police Department report.
The accident occurred when a 2007 Peterbilt semi truck, driven by James Fischer, 24, of Woodward, made a left turn from 66th — north of U.S. 412 — to travel eastbound on U.S. 412. As Fischer was making the turn, he crossed the westbound lanes into the median, according to the report.
Mayhall was driving a 2009 Chevy Impala westbound on U.S. 412, and struck the right rear portion of the trailer being pulled by the semi. He told the officer he had glanced down at his phone to check a mapping application he was using to navigate, and did not see the truck in time to stop, the report states.
According to the report, Mayhall was pinned in his vehicle and had to be extricated by Enid Fire Department.
Mayhall was cited for failure to devote attention to driving, the report states. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
