MEMPHIS, TN : Car crashes into home, hits sleeping children's bed on February, Monday 5th 2018

A Memphis family woke up to the sound of an SUV crashing into their home, right into their beds, Monday morning.

The crash happened on Gill Road off of East Shelby Drive around 2 a.m. The driver of the SUV, Torik Pipki, didn't have a driver's license and told police he swerved to avoid crashing into an incoming car and lost control. He jumped the curb, hit a fire hydrant, ran through a yard, and crashed into the home.

Two children, a 6-year-old and 16-year-old, were taken to the LeBonheur for head injuries, according to family. The family said the SUV crashed through the teenage girl's bedroom where the 6-year-old boy was also sleeping. The teenager was trapped under debris and received stitches. The boy needed staples, but they're both expected to be okay.

"I thank God my kids are alive. That's all I'm saying is thank God. Thank God. Thank God," said Johnnie Mae Staley. She's the mother of the teen and aunt of the boy who was home at the time. She was also taken to hospital to be checked out after the shock.

The teenager said when the crash first happened, she reached to protect her cousin.

"The first I did was get him out the bed. People were screaming at me asking if I was okay, and all I know is I was surrounded by glass." she said.

Pipkin was issued a citation for Financial Responsibility law, no driver's license, and failure to maintain proper control, according to police.
