Yonkers, NY : 37-year-old woman dead in hit-and-run crash near 179 Warburton Ave. on Saturday evening, April 18, 2015
A hit-and-run driver killed a 37-year-old city woman on Warburton Avenue and left her lying on the street, police said Sunday.
The woman suffered numerous broken bones after being hit near 179 Warburton Ave. around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, emergency responders said. St. Joseph's Hospital medical personnel later pronounced her dead.
Yonkers police were withholding the woman's name pending notification of her family, Detective Lt. Patrick McCormack said.
Police were searching for the driver that fled the scene and drove south down Warburton Avenue in a dark sedan after hitting the woman at the intersection of Warburton and Babcock Place, McCormack said.
The driver could face felony counts of vehicular homicide and/or assault, police said.
Police hope the public can provide information on the car, license plate number and driver.
"It was still light out and there must have been a lot of people observing what happened," McCormack said.
