Boston, MA : Wrong-way driver crash kills five people on Massachusetts highway on Monday, 24th October 2016

A wrong-way driver slammed into a car carrying four people, killing all five people on a Massachusetts highway early Monday, police said.

The driver was traveling alone southbound on the northbound side of I-495 in Middleborough when the vehicle smashed into the other car at 12:11 a.m., according to the Massachusetts State Police. A photo from the scene by WHDH-TV showed the charred remains of one of the vehicles.

The state police closed the northbound side of the highway on Monday morning. Investigators didn’t immediately release any information on the identity of the victims.“Troopers are still gathering information about the victims,” the state police said in a statement. “The facts and circumstances of the crash, including the cause of the wrong way operation, remain under investigation.”
